Corn biomass was collected by measuring a 3m row in two different random locations, counting the number of plants in 3m, and subsampling a certain number of plants from the 3m row. Soybean biomass was collected by measuring a 1m row in two different random locations, counting the number of plants in 1m, and subsampling a certain number of plants from the 1m row. Rows in the cropped systems are 30 inches wide. Prairie biomass was collected by placing a 0.61 m2 sampling ring at 5 random locations and hand cutting the prairie grass inside the ring.
